Litestep is a shell replacement for Win32 systems. LS is the longest living alternate shell and the one with the largest community of users, contributers, and supporters. I first started looking for alternate shells when I got fed up with explorer crashing all the time. I had the explorer with Active Desktop running on Win95b and it just wasn't a good thing. After a reinstall later I never allowed IE to put active desktop back on that machine, but still used Litestep because it is almost infinitely customizable. However, it does come at a price. The configuration is a text file and to get the same features as some shells out there you have to do a lot of scripting.
